One night, I dreamed of being a researcher, and today I’m…
#HumansofSTEAM
The father of Izan y Zaynab, 2 and 5 years old, and the husband of Miryam. Nevertheless, above all I would like to be someone that passes through this life having contributed to make the world a better place.
That motivation of doing my part for peace, justice, and social progress, was what made me swich from Vitoria and Physical Education Science to Honduras, Colombia, and, finally, economical and social progress and sociology.
While I lived and worked in different Latin American countries, I became more aware of the hardships of life, inequality, and the need for those of us who were raised in privilege – a family, basic resources to have a decent life, an education-, give back to society that which we have received; even though we will always be indebted to it. I also became aware that, without knowledge and capabilities, making an impactful improvement to society is not possible. Good intentions, although fundamental, are not enough.
After more than six years abroad, I returned to Spain and dived deeper in social sciences, with the goals of understanding the world better, and finding tools to impact it more effectively.
Now I work as a researcher at the UPNA, mostly exploring the connection between governance, security and development; always with the desire that my work can contribute, on one hand, to improve the ability of people to promote their own progress, and on the other hand, to feed both public policy and the proper functioning of socially committed organizations.
Even though I always try to do my best, I’m sure you can do better…
